Thredbo is famous for its season opening party and this year is set to light up the skies and rock the village in true alpine style with a massive list of long weekend events, parties and celebrations.
Highlights of the weekend will be a free outdoor concert featuring The Preatures, a spectacular fireworks display and the annual outdoor Thredbo Village Long Lunch.
The heat will quite literally be turned up at the Rekorderlig Poolside Party on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, so pack the bikinis and board shorts for this dive in party. The Rekorderlig Sounds in the Snow Series kicks off with a live free gig by electronic trio Crooked Colours. Hailing from Perth, they have played at Parklife, Wonderland & St Jerome’s Laneway festivals, and shared the stage with Flume & PNAU.
The Preatures, described as an exhilarating combination of rock and soul, will be headlining the free Corona Village Concert Series in Thredbo’s Village Square. They rose to fame with their single ‘Is This How You Feel?’ making it to number nine in the Triple J Hottest 100, make sure you catch this one. To kick things off Red Wine Roses will be warming up the snow crowd from 6.30pm. For those who haven’t had enough partying the Schuss Bar and Keller Bar will be open until late.
The Village Square will be all action as artist Kenji Ogawa fires up the files and chainsaw to create a sparkling ice sculpture. The Thredboland animals will come out to play at the Kids Opening Party, Twinkle Toes will be teaching the latest dance moves, there will be face painting, Snowy the Clown, the Thredbo Super Slide and a fire show. All this plus snow permitting you can jump on the ski’s and boards for the first turns of the season.
The Mumm Long Lunch will line the Village Square on Sunday – Italian inspired cuisine, under an alpine sky with Mumm champagne with friends makes this event one of the most popular of the weekend. For those who need a place to unwind after a jam packed weekend of activities, the Pub Bistro in the Thredbo Alpine Hotel will be hosting the Recovery Party from 10am Monday.
